The exhibition Neobarrocas (néo-baroques) began as a game, almost a play which then turned into a challenge. For years, Rosa, Ana and Bernadeth met almost every week to work in a small studio in the suburban area of Rio de Janeiro called Bancários recreating a little of the environment of the School of Arts where they all had passed. After some brainstorming and chats they founded a group of studies on art. The group posed themselves the challenge of painting a work that had some element of what had been previously studied and discussed.
So one day, the artists came across the Iberian Baroque and with its immense interferences, influences and cultural reminiscences that this style – that ended 'tropicalized' - left for us as people. And then they realized that several aspects of that culture could still be found nowadays.
